Apple Pie

One of my friends recently asked for a homemade apple pie and I was happy to oblige!  I had not made one in a while, but it really doesn't get any easier than this recipe.

Sometimes the best things in life are the most simple!

Apple Pie

Your favorite pie crust recipe for a top and bottom crust or my favorite back-up--Pillsbury!

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
6 medium (6 cups) Granny Smith apples, peeled, sliced 1/4-inch
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon sugar

Heat oven to 400°F.

In a large bowl or a large ziploc bag, combine the 1/2 cup sugar,
1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup all purpose flour,
1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp nutmeg.
Peel and slice apples about 1/4 inch thick.
Add the apples to the bowl or bag and toss to coat well.
Pour into the pie crust.
Add the top crust and crimp the edges to close.
Cut about 5 slits on the top, brush with 1 TBSP melted butter
and sprinkle with the 1 tsp of sugar.
You may want to protect the edges with foil or
a pre-made crust guard.

Bake 35 minutes; remove aluminum foil or the crust protector.
Continue baking 10 minutes or until crust is lightly browned
and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust.
Cool pie 30 minutes; serve warm. Store refrigerated.
