Fried Pies and Fireflies Shepherd's Pie Casserole

The handsome fella has been wanting me

to create a Shepherd's Pie recipe...so...here it is!

It's simple and easy to put together for a filling dinner.

It freezes well also if you don't want

to cook a large portion...

break it up into smaller ones for great dinners

to pop into the oven at later times!

Fried Pies and Fireflies Shepherd's Pie Casserole

1 1/2 lbs ground beef, cooked with 1 chopped onion; drain
1/2 cup beef broth
2 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
2-3 cups prepared mashed potatoes of your choice
with 1 cup shredded cheese added
 (My recipe is below)

1 can Green Giant Mixed Vegetables

1-2 cups French's Cheddar Fried Onions

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and drain.

Add the beef broth and Worcestershire.
    Simmer about 10-15 minutes.

    Prepare your mashed potatoes.

    Grease your 9 x 13 casserole dish.
Place meat mixture on the bottom and place
    the drained veggies on top.

Place the mashed potatoes on top and cover the meat well.
You may want to pipe the potatoes for an added elegance!

Add the Cheddar French Fried Onions

Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly.
Let sit for 5 minutes and serve.

      The cast of characters...

Saute' the ground beef with the chopped onion
      until the beef is cooked...

Drain and add back to the pan...

Add the Worcestershire sauce and the beef broth...

      Drain the veggies...

In your casserole dish, place the hamburger meat mixture in first...

      Top with the veggies....

I'm topping with the potatoes next...and I'm getting all fancy!

      Look at this!

Created with a baggie and icing tip!

Almost too pretty to eat, right?  :)

I sprinkled the Cheddar French Fried Onions
on next and baked the casserole 30 minutes...
      Yum!

      Enjoy!

      Lisa's Mashed Potatoes

      2 cups water
      1/2 stick butter
      Bring this to a boil.

Take off the heat and add 1 cup heavy cream
and 2 cups mashed potato flakes.
      Stir until combined well.

Add 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 tsp Morton's Nature Season
or salt and pepper to taste and 1/2 tsp garlic salt.
Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Spread the potatoes over the veggies or pipe it for a prettier look.
