Homemade Donuts

Ok, you know a couple of posts ago when I stated I hardly fry anymore...just disregard that... again...

Even the handsome mechanic knows:

1.  Always follow the rules.

2. The rules are subject to change at any time.

Sorry, but that makes life so much easier for me! :)

Anyway, Kaia and I had a slumber party recently and
we decided to fry donuts and donut holes.

This took me back in time to my Grandaddy's house,
walking into the kitchen and seeing
Aunt Nancy frying donuts for us.

She would always use the canned biscuits
and then we'd roll them in sugar or powdered sugar
for a great after-dinner treat!

My cousin Jamie and I had great times there.
We walked miles down the dirt roads, played in the clay and water running in the ditches, laid out in the yard to get tan (way before we even heard of sunscreen!),
and would have our slumber parties in their van.

They had the first van I had ever seen.
It was one that had the curtains in the windows
and it was amazing to me! We would pile it full of quilts and pillows, laugh and talk the night away and just about
freeze to death during the fall and winter!

She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly one day recently.  Even though she had been born with a severe bone condition, had multiple bone breaks during her life, many hospital stays, and a lot of heart problems during her adult life---her outlook and attitude was remarkable!

One, she was just beautiful inside and out.
She ALWAYS had a smile.
She never considered herself handicapped.
She never thought there was anything
she could not do or accomplish.
She worked many jobs and never relied on anyone for help. She just kept going not matter what was going on in her life. She loved her husband and family with all her heart and encouraged them constantly during struggles in their life and they all just loved her right back just as much--
she was just a lovely force of nature.

I put a quote on my desk this week that reminded me of her...

“Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.”

― Minor Myers
Let's all remember that this week
and make a difference in the lives we touch.

 Homemade Donuts

My beautiful assistant and the yummy ingredients:

1 Can Grand  Biscuits
Crisco
Sugar and Cinnamon

 Pop those biscuits right open...

Have your beautiful assistant take a biscuit and flatten then slightly with a rolling pin...

You have to make sure you're really intense like this...

We used a 2 liter drink top to cut out the center....

Plop that donut into the hot Crisco....

This is a happy looking skillet...just saying...

Don't forget to fry the donut holes...
you can eat more of them
and they don't have ANY calories...
really...
I've read it somewhere...
I would NOT lie to you...;)

Now grab a ziploc bag and mix in some sugar and cinnamon...
it's not rocket science...
any amount of the 2 will work...

Noah was in charge of the cinnamon...
he loves to cook with Grandma :)

Anyway...put each hot donut in the ziploc bag and shake with cinnamon sugar mixture...
this is how they turn out....
sigh...

Then the taste test....

Noah thinks they're just amazing!!

Grandma thinks those two are just amazing!
