Christopher and Amy took us to a great little pizza place
in Navarre a few weeks ago and
their marinara sauce was absolutely amazing!
I wanted to try and duplicate it so I found a great
New York recipe and I think I came pretty close!
This is what we had for dinner last night,
but it would be a wonderful little appetizer too!
Homemade New York Marinara
28 oz can whole peeled tomatoes
1 onion, chopped
2 tsp sugar
2 TBSP olive oil
1TBSP unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1tsp Italian Seasoning
1tsp oregano
1tsp basil
pinch of cayenne
In saucepan, combine butter and oil, melt.
Add garlic and onions and cook a few minutes
until onion is translucent.
Add the tomatoes and break up
with a spoon while it's cooking.
The marinara should be chunky.
Add the spices and sugar.
Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low.
Cook until reduced by 1/2 about 1 hour.
Season with extra salt if needed.
Serve with the cheesy garlic bread.
Will keep well in refrigerator for 2 weeks.

or cheese of your choice
1/4 cup mayo
dried parsley flakes
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Put half the loaf on a baking sheet.
In another bowl, combine shredded cheese with the mayo.
It will be a little hard to mix but a fork helps
to combine it all well.
