Cinnamon Swirl Blueberry Breakfast Bake

In my ode to my favorite hometown bakery
below my recipe today,
you'll see a picture of the cinnamon bread
I used for this breakfast casserole--
We just couldn't devour it all
and I couldn't bear for it to go to waste!
Pepperidge Farm has some great cinnamon swirl
bread that you can use as a substitute...

Hoping you'll add this to your breakfast favorites...We have!

Cinnamon Swirl Blueberry Breakfast Bake

1 loaf cinnamon swirl bread
1 pint blueberries
8 oz cream cheese
5 eggs
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup Boysenberry syrup or you can use Blueberry
2 tsp vanilla
cinnamon & sugar for sprinkling on top

Spray your casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Place slices of bread in the bottom first.

Slice the cream cheese and place on the bread.

Place half the container of blueberries on next.
Drizzle 1/4 cup of the syrup over the blueberries.

Whisk the eggs, whipping cream, 1/2 cup sugar,
and vanilla together until well combined.

Pour half of this mixture over the bread and blueberries.
Repeat the layers with the bread, remaining blueberries, remaining syrup and remaining egg mixture.

Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the top and press down lightly with a spatula so that the bread
can soak up the egg mixture.

Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next morning, keep covered
and bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
Remove foil and bake 8-10 minutes more.

Remove from oven and let sit 10 minutes
before cutting and serving.
You can drizzle with more syrup if you like.

Layer your bread in your baking dish like so...
Or, the handsome man says,
you can tear it into pieces and it would be better...
hmmm...
I'll leave it up to you :)

Cut up the cream cheese and layer it on the bread...

Place 1/2 the blueberries over the cream cheese...

Drizzle 1/4 cup of the boysenberry or blueberry syrup over next...

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, whipping cream, ...

sugar and vanilla...

Pour 1/2 the mixture over the bread...

Make another layer of bread...

Blueberries, syrup and egg mixture...

Sprinkle the top with sugar and cinnamon...

Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight...
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, covered with the foil...
Take the foil off and bake another 10 minutes.

Cut and serve...
It was delicious drizzled with more boysenberry syrup!

Ode to a Hometown Bakery

I hope your little town...
or big town has one...
you, know...
one of those most wondrous little bakeries
that have been there 1000 years....

You go to the little out of the way neighborhood
where it has always been...
you open the door and the most delicious smells
make you woozy...
where everything is handmade and
just melts in your mouth...
sigh...

In Pensacola, my favorite little bakery is in our quaint little historic neighborhood of East Hill--J's Pastry.

This is a peek of what I got when I went by the other day..

Be still my heart...

Look at this flaky cream horn with it's sweet creamy filling...

These are their Devil Dogs...oh my!
It will satisfy any chocolate craving you are having
or that you will ever have...

Look at what's waiting inside...
sheer sinful bliss :)

And their petit fours...swoon...
they are the most delicious, buttery,
flavorful piece of cake you will ever even eat!

And this is their Cinnamon Bread that they bake fresh every day.  It's wonderful to eat on your way home right out of the bag--
I'm thinking that is why they accommodate you buy slicing it...
but a warning--you will be covered in sugar when you arrive--
so you may want to have a good story ready :)

We love to butter it, place it on a cookie sheet
and lightly toast it in the oven for breakfast or a midnight snack!

A few years back,
the owner decided to close the doors forever.

Well...my vivid memory of their last day open were people lined up and down the street
to buy crumbs from the display cases.
Yes, their baked goods were that delicious and that loved!

The story does end on a happy note...
the bakery was sold to new owners,
who purchased the original owners recipes
as well as the store.

Everything is just as delicious as it always was and the new owners serve their community with the most wonderful customer service just as the original owners did.

We're all so happy they're still here!
